Philippine National Koi Show Marks 10th Anniversary
Koi hobbyists had once again showed off their stunning hand-raised kois during the 10th anniversary of the Philippine National Koi Show (PNKS). The two-day event was held in Tiendesitas last February 25 and 26, 2023.
The event showcased a diverse range of koi fishes ranging from 55 cm to 95 cm in length. All kois presented were in their impressive form. This gave emphasis to the hard work and dedication of their hobbyists who nurtured them to be competition-ready.
Hosted by Koi Hob, PNKS 2023 celebrated its 10th anniversary this year. The event was also graced with the esteemed presence of judges who hold positions as top breeders in leading koi farms from Japan. Judges Hisato Nogami of Nogami Koi Farm, Kentaro Sakai of Sakai Fish Farm, Masahito Kataoka of Oya Koi Farm, Mitsunori Isa of Isa Koi Farm, and Takayoshi Omosako of Omosako Koi Farm have evaluated the best group of participating kois and determined the grand winners of PNKS 2023.
Koi Hob owner Russell Tantuco expressed his gratitude to everyone who has participated in the event.
“We’re proud to have created a space where koi enthusiasts can come together and celebrate their shared love of these magnificent fish. And we’re grateful for the opportunity to continue building this community, fostering new relationships, and creating new memories,” Tantuco shared on the official Facebook page of Koi Hob.
Tantuco further thanked his fellow breeders in the koi community in the Philippines for their unwavering commitment to the art of koi breeding, and for continually sharing their knowledge and passion to the community and guests.
Championship-level kois in the event were testament to what koi hobbyists do–it is not as simple as buying kois and putting them in a pond, because raising a koi requires a profound understanding of the hobby, matched with unwavering dedication and skills. The koi show revealed extraordinary results achieved by passionate hobbyists who have meticulously nurtured their hand-raised young kois into breathtaking specimens.
